CSA

What You Need To Know About CSA

What is CSA?  Comprehensive Safety Analysis is a major Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration initiative designed to improve the effectiveness of FMCSA’s compliance and enforcement programs.  When enacted, it will provide our government agencies more real-time access to carrier data and a greater ability to recognize those carriers that are continually out of compliance. All while striving to improve highway safety.

Sounds good, so what’s the down side?

Simply put, reduced market capacity.

It is estimated that nearly half of the motor carriers that passed audits in the last five years would have FAILED under CSA guidelines.  As a result, there will likely be a further reduction of drivers and capacity to compound the impact of carrier failures due to the recession of 2008-09.  All at a time when freight volumes are increasing over the recent lows.

Carriers will be audited not only at their facilities, but at off-site inspections and individual driver inspections, carrier and driver history of inspections, audits and penalties will have a direct outcome on what corrective measures that a carrier would be given at the time.

As a broker, Sunteck maintains a well-qualified motor carrier database that regularly monitors operating authority, insurance status and safety compliance.  Once implemented through active regulation and enforcement, Sunteck will require all motor carriers to accept CSA compliance.
